Hi girls

After our discussion today I would like you to have another go at ‘The Investigator’ role. Think about what we talked about:

* Selecting a more specific topic (eg. the Captain, a section of the boat etc)

* Summarising the information after you have done some research

* Creating an information piece in your own words and NOT cut and paste

Here is the instructions again….

THE INVESTIGATOR

Many times when we read, we encounter new and unfamiliar ideas. It might be a

location, it might be a time period, it might be someone’s job or a way of doing

something we don’t understand. This is the role for “The Investigator”, to find out

all about the background of the story, the characters and locations. Turn your

story into an information text!

You should research using other books, the internet, or interviewing someone you

think knows about the subject. Don’t forget to site your source!

You may decide to write your information on the blog, create a poster, short movie (bring in on a USB), create a mini-book….up

Hi girls

For homework this week you need to read to p.188 (chapter 29) and complete the following questions..

Write 3-5 sentences for each answer, being sure to fully explain all of your ideas.

1.  What does the Conte want the children to steal? Describe it in detail.

2.  Bo, once again, tells Victor something he shouldn’t have.  What is it, and how could it affect all the children?

3.  How does Scipio plan to find a home for the children if they have to leave the Stella?  Do you think this is a workable plan? Why/why not?

4.  At Scipio’s house, “Prosper looked at Scipio contemptuously, but inside he felt numb with sadness and disappointment.”  Describe Prosper’s feelings at that time.

Your homework is due on Tuesday 3rd September

Hi girls

For your homework this week you are to write a metaphor poem (as we did in Lit Club this week) about the characters in the book. You will pick a theme for your poem (eg. medicine cabinet, football team, school etc). You will then need to think about what you know about the characters, their personality, interests, events etc.

Post your poem on the blog.

Your homework is due next Tuesday 28th August

Hi girls

This week we are going to research the city of Venice where the book ‘The

Thief Lord’ is set. You will each have a particular landmark to research so that we can share and find out more next week. For your landmark you will need to find out:

* Where is it?

* What happens there/it’s purpose?

* When was it built/founded?

* Who goes there?

* Why it is important?

And any other interesting information you can find.

You will also need to find a picture too. You may print this at home or email it to our class email 4ltbpps@gmail.com

You can choose whether you put your information on the blog or bring it in on paper.

So, the important part…who is researching what…

Carla – Piazza San Marco

Steph – Basilica di San Marco

Chloe – Palazzo Mocenigo

Liz – Ponte dei Sospiri

Nat – Ca’ D’Oro

Tilly – Campanile di San Marco

We will meet on Tuesday 20th August to share our findings.

Hi Noodle Nerdz

I would like you to create a goal that you would like to work towards in Lit Club. Last semester a lot of people worked really hard towards their goal and may have now achieved these. You may like to pick a new goal or re-think how you could work towards the goal you have already set.

Your goal may be something to do with the way you read to the group, the way you answers discussion questions, related to the blog, completing homework…it’s up to you!

I would also like you to write about how you are going to reach your goal and the strategies you could use.

We will be changing Lit Club days to a Tuesday from now on. Because we are bringing your Lit Club day forward we can discuss your goal in the group this week and then you can post it to the blog by Tuesday 20th August.

Hi girls

Well done on your responses this week. Don’t forget with this week’s homework to include more detail and evidence from the book to support your answer and also include part of the question in your answer. Feel free to write on here or see me in class if you are unsure of any of the questions.

I look forward to reading your responses!

Chapter Eleven. p.90

‘Once I escaped from an underground hiding place by telling a story. It was a bit exaggerated. It was a bit fanciful. It was my imagination getting a bit carried away.’

1. What lengths does Felix go to when trying to “escape”? How does Barney handle it?

2. What does Felix discover about Barney and how does Barney enlist Felix’s help?

Chapter Thirteen. p.111

‘Once I told Zelda a story that made her cry, so I lay on her sack with her for hours and hours until she fell asleep.’

1. Analyse Barney’s gesture of giving Felix new boots. What does he mean by what he says (p.112) to Felix?

2) What other “good things” does Felix seem to think he’s got and what can you see (e.g.: his hope and optimism etc) in him that is good?

Your responses are due next Wednesday 7th August

Hi girls,

Welcome  Steph and Carla to the group and everyone back to Lit Club for term 3!

For homework this week I would like you to answer the following questions based on the quotes from the book..

Chapter Two. p.9

‘Once I stayed awake all night, waiting for Mum and Dad to arrive.’

1. What memories and physical evidence does Felix have of his parents? What beliefs does Felix hold about what will happen?

2. Explain the importance of Felix’s notebook. Identify 4 things this notebook symbolizes.

Chapter Three. p.17

‘Once I saw a customer, years ago, damaging books in Mum and Dad’s shop. Tearing pages out. Screwing them up. Shouting things I couldn’t understand.’

1. Identify 2 things that unsettle Felix and explain how his thinking starts to change. 2. Felix has plans to help his Mum and Dad. What are they and what motivates him to take action?

You need to read to p.66 and complete the blog by next Wednesday 31st July.

Hi girls

For you homework this week I would like you to go to this website and create a Biocube for the person that your autobiography is based on.

You need to click on ‘Get started’. You then need to enter your name and click on ‘Biocube’ which is the first option on the page (click on the actual cube, if you click on ‘planning sheet’ it will give you a planner to use before completing the biocube). You will then see a template that you need to fill out. Once completed you have two options..

1) You print it out at home and bring it into class

2) You click on ‘Share final’ and email it to me at 4ltbpps@global2.vic.edu.au and I can print it at school (I have tested this option and it worked fine for me)

Please bring them in next Thursday 27th June.

I think you will enjoy this activity! Looking forward to seeing these!

Hi girls

For your homework this week I will give you a short summary on ‘ A Wrinkle in Time’ tomorrow (Friday). This is the story that is referred to regularly in ‘When you reach me’.

Once you have read this you need to complete the following questions..

Throughout the story there are references to A Winkle in Time. Please read the summary about the story A Winkle in Time.

1.) Compare and contrast the stories ‘A Winkle in Time’ and ‘When you reach me.’ Think about similarities and differences in reference to characters, events, settings and themes.

2.) Reread pages 7-8 and 21-28. A ‘Winkle in Time’ is Miranda’s favourite book. What does A Winkle in Time help readers understand about Miranda’s character?

3.) Reread pages 49-52 and 100-106. What does A Winkle in Time help readers know about Marcus and Julia’s characters?

4.) Reread pages 49-52, 99 and 100-106. How does A Winkle in Time affect events in When You Reach Me?

Your homework is due next Thursday 20th June.

* Next week I will give you an activity on the autobiographies…happy reading! 🙂
