Hi girls

After our discussion in Lit Club I would like you to have another go at ‘The Investigator’ role. Think about what we talked about:

* Selecting a specific topic from your book to research

* Summarising the information after you have done some research

* Creating an information piece in your own words and NOT cut and paste

Your homework is due on Thursday 28th November

**Any questions don’t forgot to ask me! : )

Here is the instructions again….

THE INVESTIGATOR

Many times when we read, we encounter new and unfamiliar ideas. It might be a

location, it might be a time period, it might be someone’s job or a way of doing

something we don’t understand. This is the role for “The Investigator”, to find out

all about the background of the story, the characters and locations. Turn your

story into an information text!

You should research using other books, the internet, or interviewing someone you

think knows about the subject. Don’t forget to site your source!

You may decide to write your information on the blog, create a poster, short movie (bring in on a USB), create a mini-book….up

Cookie Monsters

Hi girls

Today we read the book ‘The English Roses – too good to be true’.

For you homework I want you to think about the message coming through in the book about friendships.

1) What is the moral of the story (the message the author is trying to get across)? Provide some examples from the book that show this message.

2) Why did they use the title ‘The Big Green Monster’? Who was the author talking about?

3) What did you think about the ending of the book? Was it what you expected to happen? Why/why not?

Your responses are due in the last week of term on Thursday 19th September.

Hi Cookie Monsters

Each story in the book My Place follows a template – An introduction of the character, some information about their family, a picture of a pet etc and the all important map.

Your task is to create your own double page spread of your own story about your place. It needs to fit the same template as the book, so it needs  –

  • Illustrations
  • A Map
  • Info on your life (age, school, interests etc)
  • Info on a pet or maybe a hobby
  • Info on your family
  • Info on what you do around your local area

If you would like to get a piece of paper from school to complete this on this is fine! : )

Your map is due on Thursday 29th August

My Place

Hi girls

Great to see you are enjoying your new book ‘My Place’. For your reading homework you need to read to 1918. Whilst reading I want you to take notice of how the characters are changing/linking between the years and how the maps of the town are changing.

For your blog homework you are going to create a timeline here. As shown in class you will need to do the following:

1) Create a name for your timeline (eg. My Timeline) and enter your name

2) Choose a measure (choose date or event)

3) Enter significant events/time from your life (you should have at least 8)

4) Click ‘Next Entry’ to put in your next event/time

5) When you are done click ‘Finished’

6) You will need to print your timeline at home

7) Choose the horizontal layout

If you have any problems see me at school or write a message on the blog.

Good luck and I look forward to you sharing your timelines.

This is due next Thursday 22nd August.

Hi Cookie Monsters

This week for your blog I would like you to create a goal that you would like to work towards in Lit Club. Last semester a lot of people worked really hard towards their goal and may have now achieved these. You may like to pick a new goal or re-think how you could work towards the goal you have already set.

Your goal may be something to do with the way you read to the group, the way you answers discussion questions, related to the blog, completing homework…it’s up to you!

I would also like you to write about how you are going to reach your goal and the strategies you could use.

Your blog is due on Thursday 15th August

Cookie Monsters

Hi girls,

This week you are going to do something a little bit different for homework. I want you to think back to last term when we looked at persuasive writing. You need to write a persuasive piece of writing on the topic ‘Graffiti isn’t art, it is vandalism.’ You first need to choose your side of the topic. Are you agreeing with the topic or disagreeing?

You will need to come up with 3-5 reasons for you response and back these up with some supporting evidence. We will discuss this in class today.

I look forward to reading your persuasive pieces of writing!

You need to complete this homework and read to p.121 by next Thursday 8th August.

Cookie Monsters

Hi girls

Great to see you are enjoying your new book! I though you might like it! 🙂

I had found a great website with lots of activities on it that you can explore based on ‘Because of Winn Dixie’.

For homework I would like you to click on ‘explore’ and then go into ‘scrapbook’. Have a look at the example they have on Winn Dixie. Then you need to click on ‘get started’. You then need to select a character of your choice from the book and write 10 things that you know about them. After you have finished click ‘print’ and bring this in to share with your group.

* If you don’t have access to a printer at home please let me know and we can arrange an alternative for you!

You need to complete this activity and read to chapter 13 (page 87 I think it was…) by Thursday 20th June.

Hi Cookie Monsters

This week your homework is a little different – you will need to go this this website and create a trading card!! Your trading card needs to be a new character that you would add to the story.

It’s as easy as this…

1. You will first be asked to enter your name

2. Then you will need to enter a topic, this will be the name of your character. Click on ‘fictional character’

3. Then you will have access to your trading card. You need to fill out the information on the card.

4. Click ‘finish’

5. To share your card with the class I suggest that EVERYONE saves it in case some technological problems arise and you lose it:(

6. You can either bring it to class on a USB for me to print or email it to the class email address at

4ltbpps@gmail.com

You need to complete your trading card by our next session on Thursday 13th June.

Have fun!!
